Roseville NIMBYs spend thousands to worsen housing crisis

Roseville homeowners have raised $50,000 to oppose a proposed block of flats. Here is their gofundme page.

Sydney YIMBY thinks it is wrong to spend money making the housing crisis worse. Our media release is here

Today’s Telegraph discusses:

Make a Submission in Support

Sydney YIMBY has made a submission supporting the proposal.

If, like us, you think we should get on with building the homes we need for a more affordable, sustainable and liveable Sydney, you can make a submission in favour of this development (or learn more about it) here. Click on “make a Submission”.  You will need to create an account if you have not previously done so.  Submissions close on 28 May (i.e. soon).

You don’t need to say much, just take 5 minutes to fill out the form and write a short paragraph or two about why you support this proposal. It’s important to put it in your own words, but feel free to draw on our submission.

Some more background

The proposal is to redevelop 9 detached houses on 16-24 Lord St and 21-27 Roseville Ave, Roseville as 267 apartments, 80 of which will be affordable.

This site is ideal for more housing; it is a 4 minute walk to Roseville station, currently occupied with very low density houses (>1,000 sqm).

More details are available in this brochure or design guide.

The proposal should be approved as part of the State Government’s Transport Oriented Development (TOD). It is a State Significant Development, which means it is the State government, not council, that decides.

Ku-ring-gai council surveyed residents about alternatives to the TOD.  53% of respondents favoured options (1, 2a and 2b) allowing developments at this site of similar scale to the proposal.  However, council’s preferred option would instead preserve the site as low-density detached houses.
